12 Days of Small Business: Tammeca Rochester, Harlem Cycle

Small Business has its challenges, especially in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. So, we all have to do our part to support each other and the small businesses with which we are connected. So, W3 Consulting is promoting small businesses through our campaign, 12 Days of Small Business. We hope to highlight each day a small business (or two) that can benefit from visibility and that will benefit our audience.

Based in my hometown (New York City), Harlem Cycle is a boutique cycling and fitness studio founded and managed by Tammeca Rochester. An engineer by training, she brings that precision to her work, but she’s so kind and easy to work with that I know why why she’s passionate about her customers and why her customers are loyal to Harlem Cycle. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Tammeca sent bikes home with her students and developed a virtual fitness training program for them. She embodies the tenacity, smarts and dynamism needed in today’s small business world.

About Tammeca Rochester

Tammeca Rochester is owner and founder of Harlem Cycle, Harlem’s 1st and only indoor cycling studio. She has three academic degrees (Mathematics- Spelman College, Mechanical Engineering- The Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from the Stern Business School, New York University). In 2016, she decided to turn her passion for fitness and open Harlem’s 1st and only indoor cycling studio.

Tammeca’s journey to opening an indoor cycling studio in Harlem started when she was looking to find a workout that would both get her back in shape while putting her in a positive frame of mind. After exploring the various workout options, she found herself drawn to indoor cycling since it took her back to her happy childhood memories of riding her bike on the streets of Atlanta. Her entrepreneurial spirit and her passion for all things Harlem inspired her to establish Harlem’s first ever indoor cycling studio dedicated to the passion, the soul, and the hustle that defines Harlem.

About Harlem Cycle

Harlem Cycle is Harlem’s first and only boutique indoor cycling studio. We are a community-focused fitness studio teaching more than 3,000 cardio-focused classes per year that embody the spirit and culture that has made Harlem unique.

How is your Small Business unique, different in your industry? What’s your business’s greatest strength/asset today?

Harlem Cycle provides a safe space for fitness within communities that lacked basic access to state of the art and yet affordable workout classes. Our programs create a safe judgement free environment where clients can feel comfortable existing on their own terms. With instructors from the community who have also gone through their own personal fitness journey, clients are more connected to our studio. And now since we’ve taken our programs virtually, our reach has expanded to additional communities that have all felt the burn of big box gyms and are looking for a quality workout in an inviting community atmosphere. Daily, we serve the teacher, writer, executive, painter and everyday people, making them all feel equal and welcomed. There is no competition here, just community.

What is your greatest challenge as a Small Business owner? How are you working to overcome that challenge in 2021?

As a small minority owned business our biggest challenge has always been access to capital. COVID 19 has only exhausted this even more. Capital is needed to invest in the marketing and human resources to propel our brand forward. We are currently adding additional programs to our business to make us more competitive in the highly competitive field of online fitness creating a second stream of revenue for Harlem Cycle.

12 Days of Small Business: Gresham Harkless, Blue 16 Media

Small Business has its challenges, especially in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. So, we all have to do our part to support each other and the small businesses with which we are connected. So, W3 Consulting is promoting small businesses through our campaign, 12 Days of Small Business. We hope to highlight each day a small business (or two) that can benefit from visibility and that will benefit our audience.

From Gresham Harkless’s daily podcast interviewing successful CEO’s of companies of all shapes and sizes to his tireless dedication to growing his own business, I think of Gresham as an engine of efficiency and effectiveness! You can’t go wrong with knowing Gresh, so I hope you get to know him.

About Gresham Harkless

Gresham “Gresh” W. Harkless Jr. is the founder of CBNation and Blue 16 Media. CBNation is a Business to Business (B2B) Brand focusing on increasing the business success rate by providing visibility and resources for CEOs, entrepreneurs and business owners.

Gresh provides digital marketing services–web design and SEO services to entrepreneurs and business owners who know enough to be “dangerous.” His ideal client is 40 years old, married and active in his/her community. They are aware and knowledgeable about digital marketing and like to work with someone that is high touch and available to provide the services but also insight into how they can increase their visibility. He/she has a team of people and has been in business over three years and has had less-than-ideal experience with digital marketers in the past.

About Blue 16 Media

How is your Small Business unique, different in your industry? What’s your business’s greatest strength/asset today?

My philosophy is being about being A Media Company and helping entrepreneurs and business owners approach their marketing as if they are media businesses. Through CBNation–it’s brand with resources including podcast, videos and blogs to help entrepreneurs and business owners succeed.

What is your greatest challenge as a Small Business owner? How are you working to overcome that challenge in 2021?

Focus is always something I work to overcome. I think I can quickly come up with ideas and options but it’s not trying to work on new things but continually approve what I’m doing. I’m also potentially niching down to provide digital marketing services for the legal industry.

Sharon Sobel, Picture This Video

12 Days of Small Business: Sharon Sobel, Picture This Video

Small Business has its challenges, especially in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. So, we all have to do our part to support each other and the small businesses with which we are connected. So, W3 Consulting is promoting small businesses through our campaign, 12 Days of Small Business. We hope to highlight each day a small business (or two) that can benefit from visibility and that will benefit our audience.

I have known Sharon Sobel for nearly two decades through attending and facilitating the Small Business Development Roundtable at the Alexandria Small Business Development Center. She always comes prepared, and engages in tackling issues that really help everyone come together to find solutions. She embraces technology and isn’t afraid to ask. I’m so glad to be able to highlight Sharon and Picture This Video during this 12 Days of Small Business.

About Sharon Sobel

Sharon Sobel has been in business since 1997, where she started with freelance services and personal events. In 2003, the business grew to a full-time endeavor, focusing on serving the business community. The skills and contacts acquired over the years have allowed Picture This Video to grow beyond just freelance services to the company it is today: a company offering freelance services, complete script-to-screen production and video marketing strategy and consultation. Picture This Video can work with clients on a year-long content and project calendar on a retainer model to keep video production efforts in line with anticipated cash flow.

About Picture This Video

How is your Small Business unique, different in your industry? What’s your business’s greatest strength/asset today?

My small business is different or unique in that I have a wide background of production abilities combined with keeping my ear to the ground on ways that businesses can best utilize video on a daily basis. I strive to help businesses succeed through the power of video. Today, my business’s greatest strength/asset is that I am a video producer that also has webcasting skills, so I can see the big picture in producing a virtual event, rather than coming to the table with just the tools, but no blueprint to design or follow.

What is your greatest challenge as a Small Business owner? How are you working to overcome that challenge in 2021?

My greatest challenge as a small business owner is cash flow, and I want to find a way to create monthly recurring revenue, specifically through my video production services. I am continuing to network and build my reputation, and in 2021 I will explore larger networking opportunities that allow me to meet larger organizations that are too small to hire a full-time video person, but have the desire and capacity to produce video content more regularly.
